A New Storytelling Series Honoring Women Who Lead with Heart and Purpose
The Work Worth Doing: Women Who Say Yes to the Spark
Some stories begin with fireworks. Others begin with a whisper.
After 40 years of writing for purpose-driven people and organizations, I’ve learned this: the most transformative work often starts quietly—with a conviction, a calling, or a spark that won’t fade.
The Work Worth Doing celebrates women who didn’t wait for a perfect plan or permission slip. They felt the nudge, saw the need, and stepped forward anyway.
These aren’t stories about titles or polish—they’re about grit, grace, and the unseen labor of love behind leadership. Women who:
- Build nonprofits or small businesses from the ground up.
- Teach and mentor the next generation.
- Launch art into the world.
- Raise families while rebuilding communities.
Each month, I spotlight a woman whose influence may not always be loud—but is always powerful.

Why This Series Matters
In a world that measures success by the spotlight, the most vital work often happens in the shadows—where women open doors, lead meetings, write the grant, and stay faithful when no one’s watching.
The Work Worth Doing is my heartfelt tribute to those women—founders, educators, artists, and bridge-makers who remind us that influence isn’t about celebrity. It’s about legacy.
Because sometimes, the most powerful thing a woman can do is say yes… to the spark.
ABOUT THE WRITER

I’m Angie Thompson—a fundraising strategist, brand storyteller, and published writer who believes in the power of words to move people and spark meaningful change. Whether I’m capturing a legacy story, shaping a case for support, or helping nonprofits and changemakers find their authentic voice, my goal is always the same: to help good people do great work—and get noticed for it.
With more than two decades of experience in nonprofit development and storytelling, I’ve had the privilege of writing for national platforms and regional publications. My work has appeared in The Office Professional Magazine and numerous community outlets, where I’ve written on everything from donor strategy to the extraordinary impact of everyday people.
I believe the best stories don’t just inform—they connect. They invite us to see purpose more clearly, to feel each other’s humanity more deeply, and to step more boldly into the work worth doing.
